If
God needed a rest, he would certainly spend at least one night
at the Oldfather Inn. After spending an evening on the swing
that hangs from ancient boughs and watching the host of deer
as they feed, the "Old Father" would probably come
away once again with the belief that as far as His creations
were concerned, "All's [still] right with the world.
A big part of the charm of this B&B is hostess Valerie
Oldfather. In fact, what Valerie knows......old fashioned
"set-your-guests-at ease" hospitality-----You just
can't teach. Her two rustic little cottages sit behind the
main house. Tastefully decorated with country antiques, and
accented by such touches as denim curtains and patchwork quilts,
this B&B could make the pages of "Country Living".
In the winter, wood burning fireplaces keep you warm, while
Valerie's homemade nut bread come first before thoughts of
dieting.
This one is a must for families with kids 10 and over. The
basketball goal hung from a grand old crooked oak, a pristine
swimming pool, and a nearby nature walk give parents a perfect
setting to relax and bond. Patches and Ellie Mae, resident
pot-bellied pigs, love to be fed by visitors who head their
direction on their way to the creatively constructed chicken
coop, its architecture cherished by the cluster of cluckers.
As for creatures of the human variety, Valerie has a chilled
bottle of champgne waiting for adults, while kids can't get
enough from the bowl of area fruit from peaches to grapes.
The refridgerator is stocked with cook-it-yourself breakfast
fixings from eggs fresh from the coop to local bacon to homemade
bread. Hershey kisses are here for chocolate lovers.
Outside, bird houses sit amoung impatiens, irises, crepe myrtle,
rosemary, and basil that flourish under 300-year-old boughs.
Some of Valerie's plants are very old. Forget phones, traffic,
and deadlines here. The hostess has a businessman husband
and two little boys who respect guests' privacy. This one
is a personal favorite.
