Maintenance

The original Crosses are made of California Douglas Fir and are set in pea gravel and sand. Try not to lean on or climb them. They weigh approximately 400 pounds each!

To repaint the Crosses, you will need 2 gallons of paint - one blue, one gold. You may take a chip and have it matched at your local paint store or use one of the following two formulas from either Sherwin-Williams Stores or Wal-Mart:

Sherwin-Williams Formula:

One Gallon Gold Paint:

Base: B54T104, 7969-99993
Mixed With: Umber: N 1-8/32; Maroon: R 2 - 1/32; W 1 White: 2 Y - 24/32;
Y 1 Yellow: 25/32 and 1/64; Y 3 Gold: 8 Y - 23/32.

One Gallon Blue Paint:

Base: B54101, 7907-99993
Mixed With: B 1 - Black: 1/6 and 1/128; L 1 Blue: 1/64 and 1/128;
G 1 - Green: 1/32 and 1/64.

Wal-Mart Formula:

One Gallon Gold Paint:

One Gallon of either Accent Base or Light Base
Mixed With: B: 4; C: 9Y16; KX: 1Y20; V: 18.

One Gallon Blue Paint:

One Gallon of either Accent Base or Light Base
Mixed With: B: 18; C: 18; D: 6.

Other Items you will need are:
  1. 3" Roller, preferrably lambs wool

  2. 20' Extension Pole

  3. Wedge to straighten the Crosses if they are leaning. One or two wedges and a rope. To straighten a leaning Cross, toss the rope between the X of the Cross and use as a leverage. Pull on the rope and drive a wedge to hold the Cross. Some have used a cant hook (which you can buy from a hardward store, etc.) to turn a Cross - and with much success.

  4. Equipment to clean and clear the area surrounding the Crosses.
  • Note: As you are doing the Lord's work, please say a prayer. Remember a Service of Consecration was held at the erection of the Crosses and you will be standing on Holy Ground.
